Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse will close June 28 after a change in ownership at the adjoining Showcase SuperLux property.
After more than a decade in Chestnut Hill, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse is closing its doors.
The restaurant’s final day at 55 Boylston St. will be June 28, owner Steve DiFillippo told Boston magazine. The closure, he said, is not due to a lack of business.
Restaurant closings
“We’re closing because we don’t have a lease,” he told the publication. “We can’t stay in a space that’s not ours.”
According to DiFillippo, a recent change in ownership at the Showcase SuperLux property, which shares space with the restaurant, triggered the closure. He told Boston magazine he learned of the situation only last week and does not currently have a deal with new owners Kinepolis Group, a global movie theater chain.
The Chestnut Hill restaurant opened in 2013 and has been a fixture at The Street for 13 years.
The announcement continues a period of closures for the Boston-based restaurant group. While Davio’s still operates several Massachusetts locations, restaurants in Texas, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, and California have closed in recent years, Boston magazine reported. A Braintree location also shuttered in January.
DiFillippo told Boston magazine he hopes to return to the area and is exploring opportunities for another South Shore restaurant.
“We love the community,” he said.
Founded in 1985, Davio’s remains anchored in the Boston area. Its flagship restaurant continues to operate in Back Bay at 75 Arlington St., with additional Mass. locations in the Seaport, Foxborough, Logan Airport, and Lynnfield.
