In the midst of a busy summer tourism season, Boston officials have unveiled an expanded public amenities map that aims to make the city easier to navigate for residents, workers, and visitors alike.

The updated resource highlights more than 175 locations where people can access public restrooms, drinking water, and other essential amenities. The effort builds on previous city initiatives, such as the Age Strong Commission’s April list of public restrooms, to improve accessibility in public spaces and address the practical needs of an increasing number of tourists.

The new map spans nearly every corner of Boston. In addition to including public restrooms in public libraries, transit stations, parks, and government buildings, the map also includes several hotels, restaurants, residential developments, beaches, fire stations, and community centers.

“The City of Boston created this map to make it easier for our residents and visitors to find the resources you need when you’re on the go,” the city’s website says.

Among the additions are dozens of Boston Public Library branches, major transportation hubs such as South Station and the airport, as well as several of Boston’s most popular tourist destinations, including Faneuil Hall, the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, and the Institute of Contemporary Art.

Perhaps most notably, the map includes many municipal facilities available to the public. Nearly three dozen Boston Fire Department locations are included, ranging from neighborhood engine houses to district headquarters, as well as several other city buildings.

Families are also expected to benefit from the map. Boston Centers for Youth & Families facilities across neighborhoods are listed alongside parks and beaches. Plus, the map features lactation and infant feeding rooms.

Boston officials hope the comprehensive directory will serve as a model for making essential services more visible and accessible.

“Whether you’re a family exploring a new corner of Boston for the first time or a senior visiting a familiar neighborhood, we hope this map makes your time out and about all the more enjoyable,” the city website says
