The 15-year-old's death was ruled a homicide, officials say.
The teenager found dead outside a home in Salem, New Hampshire on Friday has been identified as a Massachusetts high school student, authorities announced.
An autopsy conducted by the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the victim as Wichai Saksene, 15, of Massachusetts, the office of Attorney General John M. Formella said in a press release.
Saksene died from a single gunshot wound to his chest. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, Formella’s office said.
The teenager’s body was discovered before dawn Friday “just outside” a home on Orchard Terrace, officials said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
“There is no known threat to the public at this time as all known parties have been identified,” officials said.
Saksene was a freshman at Lowell High School, Lowell Public Schools Superintendent Liam Skinner said in a message sent to the School Committee.
Saksene was also a former student of Stoklosa Middle School and Lincoln Elementary School, Skinner said.
Central office staff are assisting Lowell High School with communications to staff and families, and Student Support Services has begun a critical incident team that will be available at the school Monday, according to Skinner.
Formella’s office said additional information will be released as it becomes available while not compromising the investigation.
