Henderson appeared to lend support for Jaden Ivey, who came under fire after making anti-LGBTQ comments.

Back in March, the Chicago Bulls waived guard Jaden Ivey over comments he had made in a video he posted to social media that included referring to Pride Month celebrations as “unrighteousness.”

Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson drew headlines when he posted a bible verse on X in response to a post about the Bulls’ decision to waive Ivey.

On Tuesday, Henderson spoke to reporters for the first time since that tweet was posted. He discussed how it felt to experience some of the backlash that came his way.

Henderson’s post has nearly nine million views on X, and users responded with a range of commentary.

“I think the biggest thing — I know the cost it comes with when I share my faith in Jesus Christ,” Henderson said. “I have love for everyone, but my love may not look like the world’s love. I try to love people through a biblical lens with faith and truth.”

“I know a lot of people may be offended by it, but I think the biggest thing is that we look at life through two different lenses,” he added. “Somebody looks at it one way, I look at it another. I’m not going to stop sharing my faith. I’ll continue to share my faith and reach people and just led the Lord use me to reach people with love and truth.”

In his video, Ivey criticized the NBA for promoting Pride Month and questioned why the Bulls called his actions “conduct detrimental to the team” instead of saying they had an issue with what he called his “stance on LGBTQ.”

Henderson posted a verse from Matthew 5:10, quote tweeting a post that included a short clip of Ivey’s video.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven,” Henderson wrote.

Henderson said he had a “great” conversation with coach Mike Vrabel about the post.

“He was very respectful about my beliefs,” Henderson said. “He expressed that a lot on this team, so I really appreciate coach for that.”

Vrabel answered questions about Henderson’s post in March during league meetings.

“I love TreVeyon. I love the person,” Vrabel said. “He cares deeply about our team. He cares deeply about his faith. He cares deeply about his family, his wife, the people in our building, and so, I want them to be able to express what they believe in their heart and in their mind, but I also want to make sure that they’re educated, and we want to be inclusive.”

“Everything we want to do, want to provide an environment for people to, want to feel comfortable, but also to share their personal beliefs. And also, we represent the team, and we represent the organization.”

Henderson said he knows his views may come with a cost.

“It can come with a lot, to be honest but at the end of the day they criticized a perfect man, a man who never did anything wrong and so how much more they criticize me. I’m not a perfect man, I’m a man that makes mistakes as well. But, I just try to continue to lean on the Lord to allow him to help me to become the best person that I can be.

“I’m not a perfect person. I go through things just like everyone else. That’s why I really open up my struggles and the things I went through before I met Christ. But, I think in this world we need hope and I just try to point people to the only one who can give us true hope.”
