A Connecticut man has been charged with murder in the death of a 26-year-old woman with ties to Massachusetts who was found dead earlier this year, authorities announced Tuesday.
Cole Theodore Werhan, 28, was arrested Tuesday at his home on Claire Hill Road in Burlington, Conn., and is being held on $5 million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in Torrington Superior Court.
The arrest came the same day the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Janina Brooke Murphy died from blunt force injuries to the head and ruled her death a homicide.
Connecticut State Police found Murphy dead on March 29 near Claire Hill Road in Burlington and initially investigated the case as a suspicious death.
Murphy had ties to Massachusetts. Her mother is from Plymouth, according to her obituary, and Boston 25 News reported that she graduated from Duxbury High School in 2017.
