Two people died following a fire at a single-family home in Bellingham early Monday morning, according to officials. 

The Bellingham Fire Department responded to 15 Temi Road for a house fire Monday at 12:40 a.m., according to a statement from Bellingham fire Chief William Miller. 

The chief was the first on the scene and saw heavy fire coming through the roof. Additional companies arrived at the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire and search for occupants. 

Firefighters rescued two adults from the home, but they were later pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. 

No other injuries happened at the scene. 

The chief said the two-alarm fire spread “rapidly” through the single-family home, causing “serious damage,” but firefighters stopped it before it reached nearby homes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the local fire and police departments and State Police fire investigators.
