New Movies Streaming

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ (2025)

It’s the weakest of the Avatar series yet, but there’s no one doing it like James Cameron. Special shoutout to Oona Chaplin (granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin!) for playing Varang, the unhinged leader of the fire tribe, who is a natural ally for Quaritch (Stephen Lang) in his quest to defeat Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and the Na’vi.

How to watch: “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is streaming on Disney+.

‘Superman’ (2025)

I unfortunately cannot recommend you go see the new DC movie “Supergirl” (read my full review here), but if you’re jonesing for some Clark Kent in your life, I really enjoyed James Gunn’s reboot last year. David Corenswet’s Superman isn’t just more fragile than prior editions, he’s also more relatable. This Superman has a favorite band, a dog (albeit a superpowered one), and a girlfriend (Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane) for whom he cooks breakfast for dinner. He gets frustrated reading nasty social media posts about himself, and sheds a single tear when an innocent civilian is killed. In short, he’s human.

How to watch: “Superman” is streaming on HBO Max.

More new movies streaming: “Forbidden Fruits” (AMC+); “Little Brother” (Netflix); “Paul Simon: The Quiet Celebration” (Hulu); “Strung” (Peacock); “Undertone” (HBO Max)

New TV Shows Streaming

Avatar The Last Airbender’ Season 2

For those who haven’t seen the original Nickelodeon series, drop everything and do that first, because it’s the superior show. But Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Aang the Avatar, who must master the four elements (earth, water, fire, and air) in order to save the planet is still pretty good. This season brings Aang, Katara, and Sokka to the majestic city of great city of Ba Sing Se, a the lone safe haven within the war-torn Earth Kingdom. The visuals of Netflix’s show are incredible, and true to the cartoon’s intent. The only thing missing is the Nickelodeon show’s cheeky humor — but that’s to be expected in this grown-up adaptation.

How to watch: “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Season 2 is streaming on Netflix.

“The Bear” Season 5

After a decline in quality over the past two seasons, “The Bear” is back with renewed focus for its finale. The brisk eight-episode season gets back to the high-stakes, humorous feel of its early episodes, as Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) steps back from the restaurant he took to new heights.

How to watch: “The Bear” Season 5 is streaming on Hulu.

‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness’

If Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is pretty, pretty good, then David’s return to HBO is just plain good, with no intensifiers. David’s show has the “Seinfeld” creator essentially playing a version of himself at various points in American history, with his annoying quirks serving as the catalyst for pivotal moments in the story of our country. Some sketches work, while some are pretty, pretty unfunny. But even a lesser Larry is worth watching.

How to watch: “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness” is streaming on HBO Max.

More new TV shows streaming: “Behind the Attraction” Season 3 (Disney+); “Camp Snoopy” (Apple TV); “Las Culturistas Culture Awards 2026” (Peacock)
