One person was rushed to Nantucket Cottage Hospital Tuesday following a stabbing in the island’s busy downtown area, according to police.
Officers responded to the reported stabbing shortly before 10:30 a.m. on South Beach Street between Broad and Oak streets, near the Steamship Authority ferry terminal, the Nantucket Police Department confirmed. Both people involved in the incident remained at the scene, according to police.
According to the Nantucket Current, the person who was stabbed appeared conscious and alert as they spoke with first responders before being taken away in an ambulance. Witnesses at the scene told the Current the stabbing followed a verbal argument between the drivers of a garbage truck and a seafood delivery truck that was parked in the area.
Nantucket police said they detained a person in connection with the stabbing, though they have not named that individual.
