Worcester police are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., officers responded to a call about a man hit by a vehicle near 137 Hope Ave., police said in a press release. The victim has since been identified as James McGuire, 62, of Worcester.

McGuire was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. A preliminary investigation indicated that he was crossing the street when he was struck, according to police.

Details about the driver’s identity and whether or not charges will be brought against them have not been released. The department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate, Worcester police said.

There were no other injuries related to the crash, the department said.

Worcester police did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday evening.
