On September 16, 2024, Apple released iOS 18. Omnissa is proud to announce “day zero” support for iOS 18 in Workspace ONE® UEM, empowering organizations to seamlessly integrate the new operating system into their environments. With Workspace ONE, organizations that are ready to adopt iOS 18 for their managed iPhones and iPads can immediately update existing devices and enroll new ones.

Workspace ONE UEM also now supports declarative device management for iOS and iPad, including software update enforcement and declarative configurations assets. Read more in this blog.

iOS 18 includes many enhanced features — particularly for mobile device management (MDM) — that enable organizations to configure devices and security policies more effectively. With these improvements, IT administrators can maintain stronger governance across iOS fleets and ensure a consistent user experience.

With iOS 18 comes the beta release of Apple Intelligence, which will be made available on iPhones 15 Pro and newer, all iPads with M1, and later Apple silicon. For more information on all the new iOS 18 capabilities, including custom XML payloads and iOS app compatibility matrix, see this blog.

Some organizations may not be ready to adopt iOS 18, instead preferring to temporarily prevent users from updating to this latest release. In this scenario, we recommend deploying a profile designed to postpone the update. By navigating to Profiles > Restrictions > OS Updates in the Workspace ONE UEM console, admins can configure this profile and define how long to defer the update, up to a maximum of 90 days. This period can allow time to validate and test applications, workflows, and business-critical processes to ensure compatibility with iOS 18.

Now, with the release of iOS 18, organizations have more flexibility and control over how they manage and secure iOS devices. And Workspace ONE UEM enables efficient iOS 18 implementation, from device enrollment to operating system update management.
