The New York Knicks are NBA champions, and New York City is about to celebrate something generations of fans have waited their entire lives to see.
More than 1 million fans, according to early estimates from the NYPD, are expected to flood Lower Manhattan today for the Knicks' championship parade, marking the franchise's first title since 1973 and its first-ever ticker-tape parade through the city's historic Canyon of Heroes. Mashable will be in the middle of the action, tracking the biggest moments from the crowd and documenting the celebrity sightings, emotional fans, Mitchell Robinson's tricked-out custom truck, and whatever chaotic moments the internet inevitably latches onto from Battery Park to City Hall.
Will celebrity superfans Timothée Chalamet and Spike Lee end up riding with the team? Will Mikal Bridges' dog Sonny make an appearance? Will Alicia Keys perform "Empire State of Mind" for the city that spent the past week treating it like the official soundtrack of the NBA Finals? Will actor, director, and Knicks fan Ben Stiller be capturing footage for his upcoming HBO documentary on the Knicks with A24? And can Fat Joe really pull off a parade float reportedly packed with New York hip-hop royalty? We can't wait to find out.
Follow along as New York throws the biggest block party it's seen in decades.
The New York Knicks' championship parade takes place on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The celebration is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET in Lower Manhattan, though fans are expected to begin gathering along the route hours earlier.
The parade comes after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, securing the franchise's first championship since 1973.
The Knicks' championship parade is expected to begin at Battery Park near Bowling Green — the southern tip of Manhattan — before traveling north along Broadway through the historic Canyon of Heroes. The procession will conclude near City Hall, where players, coaches, and team executives are expected to participate in a ceremony during which New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will present the Knicks with the ceremonial Key to the City. According to ABC7, it's the first key designed without the city seal, featuring an apple instead.
Fans planning to attend should arrive several hours early, as large crowds are expected throughout Lower Manhattan. The 23 public viewing pens for the parade route officially open at 6 a.m. ET, and access points can be found on this map.
Fans who can't make it to Manhattan, or understandably don't want to deal with crowds, can watch the Knicks' championship parade live on television and streaming platforms.
Coverage is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET on Peacock through NBC New York News, while additional coverage will air on MSG Network, ABC7 New York, NBC 4 New York, and NBCSN Extra via YouTube TV.
Surprisingly, yes. While the Knicks last won an NBA championship in 1973, the team did not receive a traditional ticker-tape parade through the Canyon of Heroes. Instead, players were honored during a ceremony at City Hall.
That makes Thursday's celebration a historic moment for generations of Knicks fans who have never experienced a championship parade in New York City.
The 2026 Knicks championship ended one of the longest title droughts in professional sports and delivered the franchise's first NBA title in more than 50 years.
The run was led by Finals MVP Jalen Brunson and a deep roster that challenged the modern NBA's superteam formula. For many fans, the championship represents the culmination of years of patient team-building and one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history.
