We are looking to co-commission, alongside the Brighton Digital Festival, a new digital artwork that will be presented in a gallery space in Brighton throughout the British Science Festival (5-9 September) where thousands of people come to celebrate the latest developments in science and to engage in open discussion about issues that affect our culture and society, and Brighton Digital Festival (5 September to 13 October 2017).

Of particular interest are works that explore and respond to themes of place; the shifting horizons of physical and virtual environments; and the increasing availability of real-time and location-based data. The artwork should be original or a significant development of an earlier piece. Proposals can involve online features, but must have an aspect that can be installed in a gallery space. Any submissions must fit with the British Science Association’s vision, where science is seen as a part of society and culture and owned by the wider community, and should be aimed at a public audience (age 16+). A focus on public engagement and participation will be viewed favourably.

A budget of up to £5,000 is available for this commission, to include all fees, design, production and installation!

Application process

Please email a short description of your proposed artwork identifying how this meets the brief. Proposals should be one page of A4 text with links to other relevant works. This should be supported by no more than 4 supporting drawings or images, plus a CV and short biography.

Please also supply a proposed budget breakdown and a proposed installation timeline.
