The British Science Association invited the general public to help us decide the winners of our British Science Week poster competition on our British Science Week Facebook page.
During British Science Week, young people across the UK were invited to enter the British Science Week poster competition. The theme this year was 'Science on your doorstep'. The competition had four age categories for children from reception to year 9.
Science occurs all around Britain and this year the school competition asked students to look around them and produce a poster about any aspect of science that happens in or around where they live.
We are delighted to announce the winners of the British Science Week poster competition:
Junior: ‘My day at Daddy’s work’ by Isaac, Drayton Community Infant School.
Intermediate 1: ‘Tree’ by Prunella, Sompting Abbotts School
Intermediate 2: ‘Butterfly’ by Jemima, Hannah and Sasha, Woodland View Junior School
Senior: ‘Cardiff’ by Faisa, Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls
Adrian Fenton, Head of Education at the British Science Association said, “This year there was an extremely high calibre of entries, congratulations to all the winners! My personal favourite is ‘My day at Daddy’s work’, which conveys Issac’s enthusiasm for science!
“We really enjoyed allowing our Facebook community to decide the winners of the poster competition, and are extremely pleased that so many people enjoyed viewing the posters.”
The online voting really stirred up enthusiasm from our Facebook community, and finalist Arran from Warwickshire even featured on BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire, in order to drum up support for his poster on field margins.
Teachers really enjoyed taking part in the British Science Week poster competition. Mrs Clarke, teacher of the intermediate 2 winners Jemima, Hannah and Sasha, said "Our Year 5 and 6 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the 'Science on Your Doorstep' competition as part of our school science week. It was a great experience that we will certainly repeat in the future."
