We are delighted to announce that Jess Thom will give the Keynote talk at the 2015 Science Communication Conference, at Manchester Metropolitan University on the 18 June.

Jess is the creator of Touretteshero, and the show and book, Welcome to Biscuit Land. She will talk about how science communicators can think more creatively to engage audiences and the innovative approach Touretteshero brings to communicating about research through its interdisciplinary work.

The 2015 Science Communication Conference is being hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University from 18-19 June, and is the only place everyone from a range of science communication disciplines and backgrounds can come together to discuss the issues that face all of them. This year, our emphasis will be on moving the sector forward, improving our practice, and upping our game. The rest of the Conference will include workshops and debates to help delegates tackle big issues and learn new skills and ideas.

Jess Thom was diagnosed with Tourettes in her twenties, and, dismayed by the dryness and inaccessibility of the communication around Tourettes research, she decided to do something about it. She set up Touretteshero, to bring creativity and humour to communicating about Tourettes research, and the project has grown beyond the website, to include events, artworks, and a book Welcome to Biscuit Land, which covers a year of life with Tourettes. 

Jess's public appearances have included a TEDx talk at the Albert Hall, doing announcements on Channel 4, and this year, she will take a live show to the Edinburgh Fringe and Battersea Arts Centre.
