It’s nearly time. End this festival season with wonder, discovery and debate at the British Science Festival 2022, taking over the city of Leicester between 13 – 17 September.

Meet the researcher turning plastic bottles into prosthetic limbs. In ‘Recycled prosthetics’, Dr Farukh Farukh (De Montfort University) will take us through the process of grinding down and spinning plastic bottles to create the first-of-its-kind prosthetic limb sockets – all whilst helping combat plastic waste.

Migrant women. Now, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Because of their depiction in the media, it probably wasn’t ‘successful business owner’. Dr Natasha Katuta Mwila (De Montfort University) is here to shake things up in ‘Woman, immigrant, entrepreneur' by sharing lived experiences of migrant women in Leicester.

How well do you know your body? Get ready to leave what you think you know at the door by immersing yourself in the weird and wonderful word of illusions. Melting hands, extra digits and seeing the impossible, are all yours to discover in ‘Mind-bending body illusions’ with researchers from Loughborough University, including Dr Roger Newport.
‘Mind-bending body illusions’ is an interactive drop-in event taking place as part of the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery Takeover. Pop by anytime between 18:00 - 22:00. No booking required.
Get hands-on with 600-million-year-old fossils and uncover our deep past in ‘Fossils after dark’. Palaeontologists from the University of Leicester, including Professor Mark Purnell and Anna McGairy, will help you discover ancient lives and ecosystems that until now, have remained hidden.
