The British Science Festival travels to Bradford this year. It will run from 7 - 10 September, immediately followed by a Festival Fringe of family-focused and schools’ events.
We were delighted with the number and quality of event proposals coming through the various programme calls (from academics at this year's host, the University of Bradford, to our BSA sections and the open call).
We have selected a really strong programme of events, and now work on the scheduling and timetabling has begun.
Ivvet Modinou, Head of Engagement, said: "We wanted to try something new this year and curate a science festival that is aimed at an audience of adults – both those who already have a broad interest in science, and those who have a latent interest, or the potential to be open to it given the right content – in the way that music and film festivals are.
“The programme of events on campus will feature cutting-edge research and the latest thinking across a whole host of topics from oceans to space and Artificial Intelligence to the human mind. The ‘city programme’ will include talks and events at the Media Museum, Waterstones, the Alhambra Studio and the numerous independent bars and cafes on Bradford's hub of regeneration, North Parade.
"We'll be working with a handful of underserved audiences in the area on tailored events to meet their interests and needs and, as part of our commitment to build a legacy for each host city, we’re supporting local partners in the delivery of a Festival Fringe comprised of high quality science engagement for families, community and school audiences.”
While tickets will be free, there will be a short period of priority booking for members of the BSA's membership scheme and students on our Festival bursary scheme.
There wll also be a special members’ event during the Festival. You can find out more about our membership scheme here.
There will also be a number of ‘off-programme’ professional networking events taking place during the Festival, including our annual BSA branches and sections away day, our volunteers’ celebration and the STEM in Education reception. These are by invitation only (for more information email [email protected]), while other networking events will be publicised and open to all.
