The 2019, the BSA a Future Forum poll to understand the views of young people on the Industrial Strategy Grand Challenges, which were set as part of the UK Government’s modern Industrial Strategy. The challenges include: Ageing society; Artificial intelligence and data; Clean growth and the Future of mobility. The BSA commissioned a survey of over 1000 14-18 year olds across the UK

COVID-19 poll, UK 14-to-18-year-olds

In 2020, the BSA conducted a poll in collaboration with Onepoll of 1000 14-to-18 year olds across the UK to gauge their thoughts on topics related to COVID-19.

COVID-19, genetics research and medical data, UK 14-to-18-year-olds

The 2020 Future Forum project aimed to start a conversation between young people and researchers about genetic research – current and future – and its potential social impact. The BSA conducted a poll of 1000 young people to help inform the Future Forum workshops, which focused on three main areas: COVID-19, genetics research and medical data processing. 

Creativity in science, UK 14-to-18-year-olds

In 2022, Future Forum focused on young people's views on creativity and science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and the role of both in solving the issues of tomorrow.

The survey and workshops were conducted in partnership with UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, with support from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.

For British Science Week 2022, a representative sample of 2000 14-to-18 year olds were asked about their perspectives on science, scientists, trust in different groups within society and the ongoing pandemic.

As part of the Future Forum project for The Alan Turing Institute, the British Science Association ran a poll to gauge the views of young people on AI. This iteration of Future Forum aimed to explore areas of importance to young people in relation to their lives and AI and gain a better understanding of what they consider to be the main challenges and opportunities for the future. 

Climate change education, UK 14-to-18-year-olds

In 2023, the BSA worked in partnership with the University of Plymouth and Professor Alison Anderson, to find out about 14-to-18-year-olds’ experiences of learning about climate change and sustainability in secondary school.
