Back in April, my colleague Brendan Lowry covered an exciting new Insider update where Xbox revealed it was finally giving achievements a bit of a refresh. Now, a full month later, that refresh is starting to roll out to all users, adding to the seemingly unstoppable run Xbox has been on since new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma took the reins.
It’s fair to say that Achievements have been a core part of the Xbox experience since they were introduced with the Xbox 360. Despite receiving little attention from Xbox in recent years, we’re now finally getting a small refresh to tide us over.
Users can expect a complete visual overhaul for achievement unlocks, including new icons and animations that match your chosen color scheme. On top of that, users will finally be able to hide games from their profile, meaning if you’ve played a game you’re embarrassed to admit to, you can now quietly make it disappear.
For me, that would probably be the one time I let my sister play a My Little Pony game on my account; that can definitely be hidden. Hidden games will still count toward your Gamerscore, though, so don’t worry about losing any of your Gamerscore.
Xbox has also added improvements to profiles, so games you’ve fully completed will stand out more clearly when browsing your achievements list.
I, for one, am glad this update is happening, though I still hope we get a more complete refresh to achievements at some point this year. That’s something I’m sure Xbox has heard loud and clear after openly asking fans for feedback not too long ago.
