Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is Infinity Ward's latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise, and it's already making quite a splash. The reveal trailer alone has surpassed 40 million views, and the developers are planning to fix one of the franchise's most frustrating issues while also leaving last-generation consoles behind.

I mean, I'm kind of intrigued. If not for myself, then at least for my dad.

Now, we've got another reason to pay attention. The developers have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to push back against the idea of wacky multiplayer skins, instead promising a more grounded Call of Duty experience. As someone who has grown tired of some of the more outlandish collaborations in recent years, that certainly caught my attention, so let's take a look at the details.

In a post on X, Infinity Ward stated:

“Every aspect of Modern Warfare 4 is anchored in the game's narrative. Every feature, every decision needs to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs. We're committed to keeping it grounded and transparent, and we want to hear from you on what you'd like to see in our game.”

Many fans were quick to take a "believe it when I see it" stance, as this isn't the first time Call of Duty has pushed back against wacky skins, only for them to appear later down the line.

One fan, however, took things a step further, quote-reposting the post and saying:

“Screenshot this tweet to throw at their faces whenever they decide to toss in Lady Gaga, Omni-Man, or some other goofy collaboration into the game.”

To that, the official Call of Duty X account replied:

“No Lady Gaga. No Omni-Man. No Teletubbies. No SpongeBob. Keep the receipts.”

It's nice to see, but I'm also in the camp of "believe it when I see it." I used to love Call of Duty back in the day, but I must admit I've grown a bit tired of the franchise's yearly releases.

That's not to say they can't win me back, though. Modern Warfare 4 has certainly made an impression so far, and if Infinity Ward sticks to its word, that only makes the game more interesting to me.
