At Citrix, we’re constantly innovating to deliver unparalleled value and operational efficiency to our customers. Our commitment to empowering your organization drives every enhancement, and today, we’re excited to share a significant evolution in how we deliver and manage our platform: a shift to an industry-standard approach for licensing and enforcement for the Citrix platform. This move is designed to elevate your experience through continuous innovation, streamlined operations, and deeper insights into your environment.
Today we have officially announced this transition, with a deadline for all customers to adopt the new licensing model by April 15, 2026. We encourage you to use the time leading up to the switch to plan and execute your transition, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Our primary goal is to ensure you’re leveraging the full potential of your Citrix investments. Over the past two years, we’ve introduced substantial capabilities across the entire Citrix platform, transforming how you work. These enhancements are a direct result of our focus on innovation, and they represent the core reason to upgrade.
To deliver this level of innovation consistently and solve the operational challenges of legacy licensing, we are transitioning to an industry-standard, cloud-based licensing architecture. This isn’t just about compliance; it’s the underlying mechanism that enables the value we’ve described.
This move to a standard, cloud-based architecture automates entitlement and activation, bringing key customer benefits:
We also have a history of success with this model. Since late 2024, we have offered this type of support for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, and have organically seen hundreds of customers and partners move to utilize this offering with positive reception. Additionally, this shift aligns us with other industry leaders like Microsoft and Adobe, who have already embraced this modern approach.
This will be a mandatory transition. After April 15, 2026, all file-based licensing will cease to function. We understand that any transition requires effort, and we are committed to making this process as straightforward as possible.
The process itself is designed for simplicity:
On April 15, 2026, legacy licensing will cease to function. Deployments using the legacy file-based licensing mechanisms will have end-user impacts.
We encourage you to engage with your Citrix representatives and partners now. This transition presents a unique opportunity to schedule a strategic roadmap discussion, leveraging the telemetry data we can provide to understand your environment better. Lead with the platform benefits, demonstrating how this modernization will reduce operational overhead and unlock new capabilities. Our teams are equipped to guide you through the upgrade process and help you build a plan to meet the deadline.
By embracing this modern licensing approach, you’re not just ensuring compliance; you’re investing in a future of continuous innovation, enhanced operational efficiency, and a more robust, insight-driven Citrix experience.
