VMware SD-WAN Now Available on Megaport Virtual Edge
Megaport · 2021-12-15 · via Megaport Blog

One of the pioneers of network virtualisation and a long-time Megaport customer, VMware is the fifth major SD-WAN integration partner for Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE).

Today we’re thrilled to announce the integration of VMware SD-WAN on MVE, our fifth global market-leading SD-WAN technology partner in our quest to transform the network edge. Our customers will be able to host virtual instances of their VMware SD-WAN edge routers on MVE, and deploy Megaport Virtual Edges directly from VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator to improve network connectivity at the edge in 24 metros worldwide.

About VMware SD-WAN

For the past four years, VMware SD-WAN has been recognised as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant in WAN Edge Connectivity. It has also won a Global Market Leadership Award from Frost & Sullivan.

VMware SD-WAN simplifies branch WAN networking by automating deployment and improving performance over private, broadband internet and LTE links for today’s increasingly distributed enterprises, as well as service providers. VMware SD-WAN enables enterprises to securely support application growth, network agility, and simplified branch implementations while delivering high-performance, reliable branch access to cloud services, private data centres, and SaaS-based enterprise applications.

VMware SD-WAN delivers an advanced Secure Access Services Edge (SASE) solution based on a global, multi-service network of more than 2,000 deployed VMware SD-WAN Cloud Gateways with integrated networking and network security capabilities.

Craig Connors, Vice President and General Manager at VMware, said in today’s announcement, “VMware SD-WAN in combination with Megaport Virtual Edge offers customers more choice for simplifying WAN operations, reliable network performance for business-critical applications, and easier adoption of hybrid cloud and multicloud, while reducing latency to cloud workloads.”

Optimising middle- and last-mile SD-WAN connectivity

An increasing number of enterprises are adopting SD-WAN to improve their edge network connectivity to better serve their distributed customers, partners, and employees. Integrating VMware SD-WAN with MVE, in addition to our recently announced integrations with Cisco SD-WAN, Fortinet Secure SD-WAN, Versa Secure SD-WAN, and Aruba EdgeConnect SD-WAN will give customers of these top SD-WAN providers the ability to reduce their network dependence on the unpredictable and vulnerable public internet. SD-WAN traffic can ride Megaport’s global, private Software Defined Network (SDN) to applications in the cloud, optimising middle- and last-mile connectivity, drastically reducing egress fees, and improving network performance and reliability.

As a vendor-neutral service provider that believes in offering maximum flexibility and choice to our customers, we will continue to integrate other SD-WAN solutions on to MVE. SD-WAN will also be the first of several network functions that customers will be able to host on MVE and Megaport’s global NaaS platform.
