Oracle Cloud Chooses Megaport as Their First Partner for One Portal Provisioning

Oracle Cloud's new integration with Megaport makes it easy for Megaport customers to provision connections without leaving the Oracle Cloud console.

Megaport’s public API has long made it easy for customers to automate provisioning of Megaport services for their hybrid cloud, multicloud, and private cloud connectivity needs. Now, thanks to our strong ongoing partnership and the ease of use of Megaport’s open API, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has chosen Megaport to be its first partner to launch “One Portal Provisioning,” which enables existing Megaport customers to turn up private connectivity within the FastConnect console.

The new, deeper integration will make the user experience of Oracle Cloud and Megaport’s joint customers even more seamless than it has been, further reducing the number of steps a customer has to take to provision services with Megaport.

Our APIs enable the comprehensive integrations that customers experience within Megaport’s Network as a Service (NaaS) platform and the major cloud service providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). These integrations make it extremely easy for our joint cloud customers to provision rapid connectivity to their public clouds. In the case of OCI, all customers have had to do is point and click in the Megaport portal and then point and click in the OCI FastConnect console, copy and paste an Oracle Cloud Identifier (OCID) to link both instances to establish a connection between Megaport’s global, private Software Defined Network (SDN) and Oracle Cloud.

With “One Portal Provisioning” and thanks to the work done by Oracle Cloud developers with our API, Megaport and Oracle Cloud’s joint customers won’t even have to copy and paste that OCID between our two portals to turn up new connections. In short, they’ll be able to deploy new Megaport services completely within OCI FastConnect.

Our partnership with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure**

As we wrote about in our recent blog series about business continuity using Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture and Megaport, Oracle is one of the pioneers in the enterprise database industry, enabling companies to store and move terabytes of data in self-repairing, self-securing, and self-driving databases such as Oracle Autonomous Database. Oracle Autonomous Databases run natively on OCI while providing workload-optimized cloud services for transaction processing, and data warehousing.

Megaport’s global Network as a Service (NaaS) platform expands OCI’s global reach and easily enables multicloud customers to connect their Oracle workloads to workloads in other clouds. As multicloud becomes increasingly common, many joint customers of Oracle Cloud and Megaport use Megaport Cloud Router to connect Oracle databases to AWS workloads or ERP systems sitting in SAP Hana Enterprise Cloud. Megaport’s SDN allows them to move terabytes of data between Oracle and other cloud providers with low, predictable latency and a high level of security and data protection.

A look at One Portal Provisioning in OCI

In this Oracle Cloud blog post, they run through the step-by-step process of provisioning Megaport services on one portal: the OCI Dashboard. Screenshots are also provided to show how to create a FastConnect Connection to Megaport’s SDN without leaving the OCI Dashboard.

Megaport’s extensive API documentation

A great resource to optimize the use of Megaport’s API is dev.megaport.com, where you can access an extensive library of working code in 20 languages, as well as a testing environment where you can stage your API calls to make sure they work as intended.

As we wrote about in our blog post about the Megaport Terraform Provider, our open API also allows DevOps or NetOps teams to use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate the management of their Megaport resources, lowering deployment costs and reducing provisioning time.

In addition to being a resource for the Megaport Terraform Provider, it’s been a resource for many of our customers, including Voxbone (which was acquired by Bandwidth last year), who we recently wrote about. They reduced provisioning time by 90% by using Megaport’s open APIs to automate connectivity provisioning.

Just the beginning

OCI’s One Portal Provisioning integration is just the beginning of Megaport working even more closely with its technology partners to make the end user experience of Network as a Service (NaaS) as easy and frictionless as possible. As we’ve always said, connectivity should be simplified, and whether you’re deploying hybrid cloud, private cloud, or multicloud, all you should need to do is point, click, and connect.
