The Anker Nano Powerbank: Why It’s Worthy of a Spot in Your Gear Bag
2026-03-27 · via Technology - Popular Mechanics

A portable battery pack is a must-have tech accessory. Whether I am headed to the office, attending a work event, or traveling to another continent, I always leave home with one in my gear bag. And because I am constantly testing portable battery packs, I have the convenience of choosing one whose size and capacity suit the occasion.

Of the dozens of battery packs I have put through their paces over the past year, the Anker Nano power bank is the best compact option for most consumers.

Pros

  • Sleek and compact
  • The retractable cable is super convenient
  • Stellar charging performance

Cons

  • Maximum charging speed is only available when using one USB-C output

It Doesn’t Skimp on Capacity

Despite fitting in the palm of my hand and weighing about the same as a big-screen phone, the Anker Nano power bank doesn’t skimp on charging capacity. With a maximum single USB-C power output of 45 watts, the gadget can charge any phone or tablet quickly and reliably, as well as a compact notebook such as a MacBook Air or the recently launched MacBook Neo.

Plugging multiple devices into the battery pack reduces the power output of its ports, splitting it between them depending on what’s connected. Still, I found it to be plenty reliable for extending my independence from chargers on longer days and during cross-country flights.

It Has a Built-In Retractable USB-C Cable

The retractable USB-C cable is one of my favorite features in the higher-end Anker Prime battery pack, and it’s great to see it available in a smaller, more affordable model. The wire conveniently fits back into the accessory’s housing, making it easier to pack anywhere, especially a jacket pocket.

Depending on my needs, I could use the built-in Nano cable to charge my gadgets or to replenish its battery. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with decluttering my gear. Being able to take a backup battery without having to throw an extra cable in my tech pouch genuinely helped my cause.

Its Color Display Is Cool and Convenient

Color screens have been a thing in Anker charging adapters and battery packs for a while, and the Nano is no exception. The gadget’s screen displays its remaining capacity and charging status, the overall health and operating temperature of its battery, as well as the precise power output of all its ports. Toggling between the various readouts took place via a dedicated button.

In addition to looking cool and techy, the color screen helped me determine how to ratio the Nano’s relatively modest 10,000 mAh battery capacity between my iPhone and MacBook while on the road. And rather than staring at LED lights and making guesses, I knew exactly how much time I had to charge the battery pack itself.

Wrap-Up

The Anker Nano battery pack is not the ultimate off-the-grid backup power source, but it is a great everyday accessory that’s compact and low-maintenance. If you are looking to extend the screen time of your phone, tablet, or compact notebook without fully recharging its battery, this is a great buy. If you are looking to fully and rapidly charge your devices, I suggest spending around twice as much on a larger power bank.

Anker offers the battery pack in black, white, green, or pink, each featuring a matching USB-C cable and carrying strap. The Nano is backed by a two-year warranty.
