Runwell Watch

This is probably the most style-forward watch on this list, but it’s near and dear to my heart. I first came across it a couple of years ago in my favorite coffee shop in upstate New York, and was impressed by its unique silhouette and bold colorway off the rip. The Shinola moniker also jumped out at me; it’s named after the old shoe polish. I’ve become a huge fan of the brand since (I also reviewedone of its knife collabs in December), and I finally pulled the trigger on the watch years later. It’s the perfect combination of rugged, timeless style with a modernized twist. The leather band is especially comfortable, and I’ve gotten more compliments on this watch than I have on the last three combined. Can’t put a price on that.

Instinct Solar

Now 9% Off

I love the watch because it just looks like a regular digital watch. I've never wanted a fancy smartwatch with a colorful screen, but I have always been curious about having a few of the health metrics on my wrist. The Instinct gives me both of those things. It's sturdy, simple, and still tells me my heart rate, steps, and lets me track my workouts. At the same time, it's solar-powered. I still have to charge it up every now and then, but the time between charges is way longer. —Tom Price, Reviews Editor

Ultra 3

I’ve worn an Apple 7 Series watch for the past five years or so, but found myself drifting toward the Ultra 3 display at my local Apple store last Christmas. Lured by the sight of the larger body and glass and the bolder crown and system button, it was one of those watches that I just wanted in my bones but couldn’t really justify, as I’m not as fitness-oriented these days as I used to be. Plus, I’m a bit of a Luddite, so I assumed a lot of the newer tech would be lost on me.

My relationship version of Santa evidently saw me pawing the little technological marvel like Gollum, and the watch showed up under the tree. Six months in, I find it far more comfortable to wear daily than my previous watch and, more importantly, it’s weirdly inspired me to not only engage in a lot more fitness activities but also track them. This watch will get you off the couch. I’m also notoriously rough on workwear and watches, and this watch has yet to get a scratch. I absolutely love it. —Paul Smith, Test Editor

Pace 4

I appreciate the Coros Pace 4 for its combination of utility and value. It has a simple-to-use interface, an easy-to-use operating system, and a battery that lasts forever. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of other running watches, but you don’t really need them if you have your phone. This is just a great running watch at a great price. —Cat Bowen, Senior Commerce Editor

Watch Series 11

Now 12% Off

I’ve never been much of a watch guy, myself, until I started wearing an Apple Watch. Part of it is that it’s the right size and weight, so it doesn’t bother me as other watches have in the past, but the real reason I need to have it on my wrist every single day is that it makes my life easier in ways that go way beyond not needing to get out my phone to check the time. I use Apple Pay for nearly every day credit card purchase, which speeds up everything from trips to the grocery store to swiping into the New York Subway for my morning commute. If I ever lose my phone? I can trigger a sound that makes it easy to find.

And then, of course, there’s all the health and fitness tracking—heart rate, blood oxygen level, activity. If you’re trying to lose weight (and I am), having some feedback helps me feel like I’m on the right track. I know that many people prefer the timeless style of a mechanical watch. I respect it, but I can’t give up the practicality of the tech on my wrist. —Mike Epstein, Senior Commerce Editor

Watch SE 3

The SE 3 is a great buy because it offers all the core features that make the Apple Watch great, including an always-on display, at a great price. The elaborate sleep tracking tech found in the pricier Apple Watches is also available. Most importantly, the Apple Watch SE 3 has crash and fall detection tech, so it can literally save your life. —Stefan Vazharov, Senior Tech Editor

40mm Midnight Black Nike Sport Band

I use my Apple Watch to track my workouts every time I move, even if it's just a 15-minute walk with my dog during my lunch break. That's why I've always exclusively used Nike Apple Watch bands. They are lightweight, quick-drying, and ensure my watch stays in place during high-impact workouts like a run or a skating session. And, the band I have is still comfortable even when I'm not working out! —Sarah Connor, Reviews Editor

Scanwatch Nova

The Runwell is a great everyday watch, but I also prefer to have a fitness tracker on deck. I used to use an Apple Watch, but the Scanwatch Nova caught me by surprise. I love my Withings smart scale, and I noticed the brand offers a line of health-tracking watches that sync to their scales fairly seamlessly. But I was especially impressed by how sharp they looked; they weren’t your average fitness tracker/smartwatch. The Nova, in particular, looked like a classic stainless steel watch. I love the versatility of this thing, and it’s become my new go-to for tracking some key metrics. It’s great not to have to switch between watches going from the office to the gym. It covers a lot of ground.
