The Sharge Icemag 3 Magnetic Battery Pack Stands Out with Cool and Handy Features
2026-04-28 · via Technology - Popular Mechanics

Last year, wireless charging took a big leap forward with the launch of a new and improved Qi2.2 standard, which raised the max output for new wireless charging pads to 25 watts (W). The upgrade almost doubles the wireless charging speeds in new phones—the previous standard, Qi2, maxed out at 15 watts. If you like using a slim magnetic battery pack that can latch on to the back of your phone and charge, no cords attached, this is a good time to consider upgrading.

And, as you might expect, there’s been a surge of new battery packs and chargers hitting stores in the past few months as every brand races to update its best chargers with the new tech. Sifting through that wave, a new battery pack caught my eye and has earned a place in my bag: The Icemag 3 by Sharge, an accessory maker that has earned a reputation recently for making cool chargers and accessories, made a strong impression on me with a handful of distinctive features and a stylish look that really makes it look and feel special.

It’s Fast…

Putting Qi2.2 front and center, the Icemag 3 is among the fastest wireless charging battery packs on the market in 2026. And at 10,000 milliampere-hours (mAh), it offers what I think of as the standard for slim magnetic battery packs.

On a recent trip to Europe, I used it to charge an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra—two top-shelf phones—just as fast as the 3-in-1 wireless charging station I keep on my office desk. Specifically, I was able to bring each phone's battery from below 20 percent up to 50 percent in less than 30 minutes. That’s enough for a day’s worth of screen time.

For more intensive charging tasks, the Icemag 3 also has a 35 watt USB-C charging cable. That’s not top charging speed for a medium-sized battery pack, but it is faster than the wireless pad and gives you enough output to quickly top off a lightweight laptop like a MacBook Neo or even the MacBook Air. Not every slim magnetic charger gives you that wired, fast-charging option, so I call it a win.

And It’s Packed with Handy Extra Features…

A faster charging speed is a big deal, but Qi2.2 is a standard—plenty of premium battery packs have it, and more will in the near future. The Icemag 3 made an impression by adding a few extras to the package. Some you’ll find here and there, but a couple of them were genuinely surprising.

Let’s start with the more common stuff: Some people prefer integrated charging cables, while others would prefer ports so you can use whatever cables you like. I personally prefer the convenience of a built-in cable, and Icemag 3 had my back. My one gripe here is that the cable isn’t retractable. You can plug it into the pack’s charging port to create a carrying loop, but I’d avoid that: putting strain on that cable will eventually cause it to break down the line.

The integrated USB-C cable doubles as a strap, which is useful, but may strain the cable over time.

I also appreciated that it had an integrated kickstand, so I had more than one reason to break out the battery pack on my trip. It could hold both the iPhone and Galaxy Ultra in either portrait or landscape. Portrait is great for when you’re scrolling TikTok or social feeds, while landscape is better for watching movies or playing games.

The most interesting feature, though, is the Icemag 3’s namesake cooling fan, which helps prevent your phone from overheating. This is more helpful for some phones than others, but most phones do start to feel at least a little bit warm if you use them for a demanding task (like gaming) while charging at the same time.

While I tested it exclusively with top-tier phones, I would imagine that you’d see the biggest benefits on budget-tier Android phones that tend to get very hot when pushed to their limits: In that scenario, your phone may genuinely run better while the pack’s attached.

But the Best Part is That it Looks Cool

Most battery packs look the same. Slim magnetic battery packs, especially, are all identical—they all have the same money clip-sized rectangular shape, coated in monochrome plastic.

Sharge Icemag 3

A clear panel shows off some of the hardware inside the battery pack, which gives the Icemag 3 a distinctive look.

As a brand, Sharge has bucked that convention, making chargers with translucent plastic cases that expose circuit boards and give their gear a maximalist tech-forward feel. The Icemag 3 is relatively tame by Sharge standard, but still looks very slick, with a clear cover that exposes the battery pack, circuitry, and cooling fan. The back panel, including the kickstand, is made of metal, creating some neat contrast. This is the opposite of the generic, utilitarian designs you get from other brands.

The gadget’s built-in indicator light contributes to the quirkiness of its design, though some might find it to be a bit over the top. There’s an option to disable the light by long-pressing the battery pack’s sole button if you prefer a lower-key setup.

I liked having the light on while gaming during an overnight flight to Europe for an extra touch of ambiance. I’m in my 40s and have much less free time for gaming, and the battery’s tiny light treated me to a welcome sense of occasion when I started digging into some old favorites.

Who Should Buy The Sharge Icemag 3?

If you’ve bought a new high-end phone in 2025 or 2026—think any iPhone 17, the Samsung Galaxy S26, or the Google Pixel 10 Pro—upgrading to a Qi2.2 battery pack will improve your charging speeds dramatically.

If that sounds like you, I’d pick the Sharge Icemag 3 because of its very interesting look and compact construction. Frankly, even if you don’t have a Qi2.2-enabled phone, I think the look is worth the price of admission on its own.

Beyond that, I think the integrated cable, kickstand, and cooling fan are all useful flourishes, as well, which give this charger a slight edge over other packs with similar top-level specs.

I will say that, at $80, the Sharge Icemag 3 is on the expensive side for a charger of this size. That said, with the latest charging standard and some noteworthy features, I think you’re getting your money’s worth.
