Fears grow for British mother missing in Tenerife who dis...

A British man has flown out to Tenerife today to find his missing mother who disappeared after getting off at the wrong bus stop.

Gary Myers is joining the search for his mother, Kathy, on the largest Canary Island where she owns a property and spends half of the year living with her husband Steve.

Mr Myers said his 70-year-old mother from Liverpool had a brain tumour removed a few years ago and is a 'vulnerable person' with 'damage to her memory.'

The last known sighting of his mother was last night in Puertito de Guimar, a quiet coastal village on Tenerife's southeastern coast just under 20 miles southwest of the capital Santa Cruz.

He urged anyone with information on his mother's whereabouts to contact the police this morning after 'she got on a bus and got off at the wrong stop' returning home from the hospital.

Mr Myers, who lives in the UK, made a social media post on a Tenerife missing person's website that said: 'Hi, my mum has gone missing whilst travelling home on the bus from the hospital in Candelaria.

'She was last seen in Puertito De Guimar at around 8pm last night (FRI). Her phone has died and she is a vulnerable person. She has a black T-shirt on.

Her son, Gary has flown out to search for his missing mother who is a 'vulnerable person'with 'damage to her memory'

'I'm on my way out to Tenerife now to look for her, but if there are any sightings could you please contact the police. She has been reported as a missing person.'

Mr Myers's missing mother is not the only Brit to go missing on Tenerife this year.

A holidaymaker identified only by his first name of Michael went missing on the island after going out for an early-morning walk, having arrived just hours before with his wife.

His disappearance was reported to the police and he was found hours later.

Susan Hornby from Dorset also vanished during a trip to Tenerife with her husband Peter on February 6.

The 76-year-old went missing on a three-hour hike and was found in a ravine nearly 30 hours later where she was dramatically airlifted to hospital.

Louise Bakewell, who led an appeal to find Mrs Hornby, thanked well-wishers for their concern.

She said: 'Thank you so much for all your help and advice. What a wonderful group of people - my faith in humanity well and truly restored.

'Just to clarify- she went off on a walk alone and then became unwell. She did not have find my iPhone enabled on her phone- please tell your friends and relatives to always enable this if they can, just to be safe.'
