After a Colorado one-year-old refused to stop crying, her parents' sharp instincts led doctors to make a terrifying diagnosis.
In March, Jovi Darpino's mom and dad noticed their daughter was no longer her usual, bubbly self, but they couldn't figure out what was wrong.
'She was inconsolable, crying and just very sick,' her mother, Chesney, told KKTV.
Initially, her parents thought Jovi had contracted some sort of gastrointestinal virus, causing her to be sick and dehydrated, Chesney explained on Facebook.
But on the advice of their pediatrician, Chesney and her husband Nick rushed Jovi to the emergency room at the Children's Hospital Colorado.
'The doctor came into the room and told my husband and I to sit down,' Chesney said. 'He said, "This is really bad. She has a mass in her brain, and we need to act now."'
Doctors urgently flooded Jovi's hospital room in a swift effort to save the little girl's life from the slow-growing tumor encroaching on her brain.
As their daughter's symptoms rapidly progressed, Chesney and Nick were told Jovi may not survive her first night in the hospital.

With Jovi at the brink of death, doctors were forced to administer CPR multiple times.
Throughout her treatment, the little girl was put in a medically induced coma, given multiple MRIs, and placed on various feeding and breathing tubes.
Jovi's massive tumor was blocking fluid from entering her spinal cord, so doctors drained the material from her brain.
Nick described the horrifying health scare as 'the worst thing you can imagine.'
But fortunately, the little girl's mass was non-cancerous and it was successfully removed during an 11-hour operation on April 6.
Nick and Chesney were a constant presence at the Children's Hospital for well over a month, chalking up Jovi's successful recovery to their own parental instincts and 'trusting their gut.'
'We were told we were at the perfect place at the perfect time to save her life,' Chesney said.

To aid with the cost of treatment, a friend of the family started a GoFundMe to support the Darpinos 'as they navigate through the unthinkable.'
'As they focus all of their strength and energy on their child’s care, they are also facing the emotional and financial strain that comes with ongoing medical treatments, hospital stays, and time away from work,' read the fundraising page.
'No parent should have to carry this burden alone.'
The couple both work as educators in Colorado Springs. They share another child, Arlo, 5, who was by his little sister's side through her entire treatment.
Jovi is in continued recovery after the major surgery, but her parents said the little girl is in good spirits and is slowly starting to resemble her old self.
She was discharged from the hospital on May 6 and will continue treatment in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.
Doctors plan to closely monitor Jovi through monthly MRIs and appointments with specialists.

'We wanted to give more spotlight on the doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital who are angels on earth and the reason our daughter is alive,' Chesney wrote on social media.
'The overwhelming support and help we have received is another resounding theme. We are eternally joyful and thank God for his numerous miracles.'
