Andy Murray says he's not been tempted to make Serena Wil...

Andy Murray has said he has not been tempted to make a Serena Williams-style return to the tennis court.

The Scottish sporting legend, who ended Britain’s agonising 77-year wait for Wimbledon men’s champion, said he was not yet missing the sport enough to do so.

And, nearly two years after he last played his last professional tennis game at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sir Andy said he doubted he would be physically able to.

Since retiring from the sport the two time Wimbledon champion has thrown himself into golfing, and has now joined the coaching team of fellow British tennis player Jack Draper.

But Sir Andy, 39, will not be making a shock return to Centre Court any time soon.

He said: ‘As much as I would to, I don’t think I’d physically be capable of doing that.

‘I haven’t missed the sport enough yet to want to get on the court and even his tennis balls.

‘I don’t mind hitting the occasional ball if it’s required on the practice court, but I don’t think 44-year-old me will be competing.’

Sir Andy Murray has revealed he's tempted to make a comeback to the tennis court like Serena Williams

Serena Williams, 44, is set to return to the All England Club this year to play doubles with her sister Venus after being handed a wildcard.

And Sir Andy said he was not ‘too surprised’ the tennis superstar has returned after a conversation he had with her at last year’s Miami Open.

He told the BBC: ‘She asked if I missed playing, I was like “Not at all, to be honest”.

‘She said “I miss it every single day. I absolutely loved competing, love playing. If I could, I’d be back out there again.”’

Sir Andy’s return to coaching came as a surprise to many, with the two time Olympic gold medallist enjoying life outside the sport in the year since he stopped coaching rival Novak Djokovic.

During those 12 months he spent time with his wife Kim and their four children, and earlier this year even said he was not ready to return to coaching.

But he said: ‘After I stopped working with Novak, I had a number of opportunities to coach again. I had no interest in being on the road and away from my family.

‘It wasn’t that I disliked coaching - I just didn’t enjoy it more than I do being at home with my family.

‘When Jack asked me, I thought about it, spoke to my wife and told Jack that I’d love to help him.’

Murray has been coaching British tennis star Jack Draper ahead of the Wimbledon championships

Sir Andy has been working with Draper in the run up to Wimbledon, which begins on June 29.

Draper, who is recovering from fitness problems, is the former world number four but lost his place at the top of the men’s game after a range of injuries over the past year.

The end of Sir Andy’s career was also blighted with injuries, with the famous Scot having faced injury troubles since 2017.

Since quitting full time tennis as well as golf among the activities Sir Andy has turned to is running a hotel near his hometown of Dunblane, Perthshire, with his wife Kim.

He said: ‘The advice I was given when I finished was to just try lots of new things because, as athletes, we just do one thing.

‘My whole life, since I was 14 or 15, was wrapped up in tennis and that’s all I knew.

‘I didn’t love doing stuff outside tennis because I felt like it was distracting me from the work.

‘So I’ve tried to do different stuff, see whether I like it and if I’m good at it.’
