They are normally welcomed by star-struck locals as the cream of Hollywood descend on Scots locations to shoot the latest blockbuster.
But a row has broken out over the filming of Amazon’s Highlander reboot, starring Henry Cavill and Scots actress Karen Gillan, on the Isle of Skye.
Filming has been taking place in Glen Nevis in Lochaber without any issues but on Skye – where its dramatic landscapes were used for the original Highlander – there is growing anger at the fact popular tourist car parks have been reserved for film crews.
Some of the areas affected are at Kilt Rock Mealt Falls, Old Man of Storr and a lay-by at Bride’s Veil – where a staircase-type structure near the picturesque backdrop has been constructed.
In most cases, half the car parks have been reserved between certain times on various days between April 15 and 17. But Bride's Veil car park will be shut off until April 21.
Locals and visitors have hit out on social media over the disruption that will be caused as the tourist season gets into full swing. Stephen Plant said: ‘Why should a commercial entity have priority over tourists who have spent their time planning a holiday on Skye to visit iconic sites only to be told they can’t go there because some film company has a right to film?
‘Surely the film company should work their schedule around times when tourists are less likely to be there.’
Mel Crescent wrote: ‘Great! I will be one of those tourists. Paid £700 for a cottage from next Wednesday for three days. Oh well, let’s hope we still find lots to do.’

Ilona Young added: ‘Thank you for heads up. It is disappointing when you arrive somewhere after months of planning to go there, only to find out that it won’t happen.
‘Having this knowledge allows me to add a Plan C.’ Patricia Mitchell sarcastically said: ‘Tourists will love that, especially at the Storr, not!’
But some welcomed the influx of the cast and crew, citing the economic benefits it will bring as well as the worldwide exposure for the island. Iain Cumming wrote: ‘I think it’s brilliant and folk should stop whining.
‘There’s plenty other places to visit on Skye, there’s more to this island than the Storr and the Quiraing. You’ll get more bedlam at the Fairy Pools on a summer’s day than you will compared to these places being shut for a few days.
‘If a film company wants to highlight our beautiful scenery for the big screen and contribute to the local economy, as they frequently do, then let them crack on. Sick and fed up of this island being about tourism all the time.’
Other cast members in the remake of the iconic film, which originally starred Christopher Lambert and Sir Sean Connery, include Russell Crowe, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela and Max Zhang.
John Wick director Chad Stahelski is leading the project, which is a re-imagining of the 1986 feature about an immortal Highland swordsman battling for power in an age-old war.
Highlander was set to start filming in September 2025 but the schedule had to be delayed after Superman star Cavill suffered a leg injury in pre-production.

Hollywood-based actress Ms Gillan is also likely to be bringing her baby daughter with her.
The Inverness-born star and her husband, US comedian Nick Kocher, had Clementine in late 2024. In Highlander, she is taking on the role of the wife of Connor McLeod – played by English actor Cavill – the love of his life, who he meets while still a young man.
Skye has regularly been sought out by film makers.
Scenes for the Transformers movie – Transformers: The Last Knight – starring Laura Haddock, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mark Wahlberg, were also shot on the isle.
The Disney adaptation of Roald Dahl’s BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg, also featured parts of Skye.
Keanu Reeves 2013 film 47 Ronin had scenes shot near Neist Point, and the landscapes of Skye and Wester Ross had big screen exposure on Stardust, which featured Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro.
A Highland Council statement said: ‘We can’t share details of specific upcoming projects due to confidentiality, but we can confirm that the following car parks will be closed on the dates listed below and visitors should avoid these locations during those times.
‘Kilt Rock/Mealt Falls Car Park: 15th – 17th April, Quiraing Car Park: 16th – 17th April and Storr Car Park: 16th – 17th April.’
