Bright green parcel locker 'plonked' on quiet cul-de-sac ...
2026-04-28 · via News | Mail Online

A bright green parcel locker that was abruptly 'plonked' on a quiet cul-de-sac has been removed after less than a month following outrage from residents.

Homeowners on Arne Road in Walsgrave, Coventry, were 'up in arms' after the 8ft-tall delivery locker was dropped on their doorsteps on April 10.

The battery-run, solar-powered delivery point is owned by Yeep!, which has since admitted the location was 'wholly unsuitable' and removed the locker yesterday afternoon.

The delivery point had been placed half a mile from the nearest shop, with locals claiming they hadn't seen the parcel lockers used once since it was installed.

They claim they were initially told a concrete base had been installed for a new salt box, and were enraged to then spot the 'eyesore' box just yards from their living rooms.

One local, John Davies, who lives just a few doors down from where the locker was erected, said residents were 'overjoyed' following the u-turn.

But he has questioned why it was ever put there in the first place, as it wasn't even used once and sat half a mile away from the nearest shops.

'Thankfully, it has been removed yesterday afternoon, some men came and took it away,' Mr Davies, 77, said.

Residents were 'outraged' after the green delivery point was 'plonked' outside their windows

'Apparently, they had been giving 28 days to take it down anyway, but to get it gone this quick is amazing.

'I hope it makes them think about where they put these things in the future, they can't just be putting them anywhere. It was an awful shock for us.

'The residents were all overjoyed, we were all thankful that it's gone from the street. It was such an extreme eyesore for so many of us.

'Now there's just the concrete block there now, which needs to go as that's bad in itself.

'I'm going to work on the council now to try and get them to do something about that.'

Neighbours had previously spoken of their anger after the garish locker, which was randomly installed in the middle of the residential street.

Mr Davies' wife, Suzanna Davies, 57, added: 'It's outrageous, we were on holiday and when we got back it was there, plonked in the middle.

'We all care for where we live. There's pretty flowers and we all help with the mowing, which will make it a bit hard to do.

'It's all resident parking only, so there's more risk of traffic and a danger to kids. Who wants to live near that?'

Lynda Congrave, 79, who has lived on the street for 40 years, said: 'I can't believe it's right outside my living room window. It's disgusting.'

Jamie Dickinson, CEO of Yeep!, has apologised to residents on the street, telling them an internal review is taking place over how the delivery locker's installation came to be.

He said: 'Yeep! would like to apologise unreservedly to the residents of Arne Road in Walsgrave, Coventry.

'We have investigated the circumstances surrounding the installation of the locker.

'We acknowledge that the location was wholly unsuitable and have taken immediate action to deactivate and remove the locker.

'We have also reviewed our internal procedures and are implementing strengthened controls and additional improvements to prevent a similar experience occurring.'
