Beach hut with no power or running water goes on sale for...

A Welsh beach hut with no power likened to a 'shed' has gone on sale for £200,000 in a village dubbed 'Cheshire-on-Sea'.

The detached cabin is made of timber and corrugated iron, one of 17 huts on the dog-friendly Porth Mawr beach in Abersoch, North Wales.

Completely rebuilt in 2023, the hut features private decking with views across the bay and was described as 'a perfect convenience for the coastal lifestyle in Abersoch'.

Previously labelled a 'millionaire's playground', Abersoch is a favourite of monied holidaymakers.

Some visitors are Premier League footballers, including former Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker.

Coleen Rooney, wife of former Manchester United star Wayne, has also been spotted in the village, prompting the Cheshire-on-Sea label as a nod to the affluent north-west area where many footballers choose to live while playing for nearby Premier League clubs.

Abersoch, a seaside village at the western tip of Wales's Llyn Peninsula, has a year-round population of barely 600 and has also been called the 'Sandbanks of the North' after the glamorous Dorset neighbourhood.

The nearby Lighthouse Island is owned by adventurer Bear Grylls and huts on its Main Beach regularly sell for more than £200,000 despite having no running water or electricity.

Beach Hut 7 is one of the cabins on the beach in the affluent Llyn Peninsula holiday hotspot, a former fishing village

The cabin has no electricity or running water but it is not uncommon for beach huts in Abersoch to sell for such high prices

Described as a 'shed', the estate agent selling the hut said it provided 'fantastic storage'

The cabin also has a private decking area and views across the bay at Abersoch

Earlier this year a luxury Land Rover Discovery was swallowed up by the waves after its owner failed to move it in time.

Such is the wealth concentrated in Abersoch that the bumpy lane winding around the Benar Headland is now the most expensive in Wales.

That label is certainly reflected by the village's beachside cabins.

Beach Hut 7, which estate agent Elvins said provided 'fantastic storage', is on sale with offers over £200,000 having been invited by 4pm on July 1.

The average selling price of a semi-detached property in Wales is currently £213,000.

This rose to more than £500,000 in Abersoch, a former fishing village turned seaside resort.

But the village's expensive beach huts - one of which measured 12ft by 10ft and went on sale for £150,000 last year - were buried in sand in February after winter storms left some cabins engulfed.

Strong tides and high winds left some beach huts with their entrances blocked.

Speaking about the beach hut currently on sale, Elvins said cabins on this side of the beach 'don't come around often', describing the sale as a

rare opportunity.

The agency said: 'Think BBQs with friends, sundowners with a view, somewhere to stash the paddleboards, the wetsuits, the beach toys and keep the sandwiches sand-free.'

But the hut's guide price left some shocked, with one saying: 'I thought this was a joke or they'd added an extra zero on by mistake.'

Another said the hut 'looks like a garage', while a third added: '£200k shed with no electric. No wonder there's no housing for locals. Disgraceful.'
