An e-scooter rider crashed into a police officer outside Buckingham Palace, with them both rushed to hospital.

The collision, which took place at around 4pm last night, saw the rider crash into an officer, who was a pedestrian, at the bottom of Constitution Hill.

Both the male rider and officer were rushed to a major trauma centre after emergency services were called to the scene.

They were later assessed as having injuries that were not life-threatening.

Paramedic equipment, an abandoned police hat and scraps of clothing were all seen strewn across the road.

The black e-scooter lay on its side nearby.

A large cordon remained in place for some hours after the incident, causing confusion for some cyclists.

Officers were seen shouting at several people who attempted to ride their bikes on a cycle lane straight through the cordon.

'Get out, you're in a crime scene,' one told them. 

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: 'Both the rider of the e-scooter and the police officer were taken to hospital. Their injuries were assessed as non-life threatening and non-life changing.

'The scene of the incident was cordoned off while the level of injuries was confirmed.'

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We sent an ambulance crew, incident response officer and dispatched London Air Ambulance via car to the scene. 

'We treated two males at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.'
