One of New York's busiest airports is suffering delays after a large sinkhole was discovered on a runway during a safety check.
LaGuardia Airport, which services more than 90,000 passengers per day, is experiencing delays after a sinkhole was discovered near Runway 4/22, Port Authority, which oversees the airport, told the Daily Mail in a statement.
'The runway was immediately shut down, and emergency construction and engineering crews are onsite to determine the cause and complete necessary repairs as quickly and safely as possible.'
CBS New York helicopter footage captured a large crew of workers in construction vests standing near the large sinkhole.
Machine equipment appeared to be cleaning out the sinkhole and loading the loose gravel into a truck on Wednesday afternoon.
Port Authority warned LaGuardia passengers they may experience delays and cancellations while crews worked on the sinkhole, especially with thunderstorms rolling in later in the evening.
'[Passengers] are strongly encouraged to check directly with their airlines for the latest flight status information,' the Port Authority, which runs the airport, said in a statement.
As of Wednesday afternoon, LaGuardia canceled 94 outbound flights, according to FlightAware.

More than 65 flights have been delayed, or roughly 12 percent of outbound trips, the platform said.
In March, LaGuardia was the site of a deadly crash involving an Air Canada plane and a firetruck on the runway that left dozens injured and killed the pilots.
The National Transportation Safety Board preliminarily found that the firetruck had not been equipped with a transponder that would have triggered an alert from an automatic system if its path was on a collision course with the aircraft.
Due to that, the plane - which was cleared to land - struck the emergency vehicle.
