The husband of a California Bay Area coffee shop owner who vanished without a trace has shed light on struggles the devoted mother and caretaker was facing.
Amy Hillyard, 52, disappeared on March 25 after she was last seen walking the family dog in their Cleveland Heights area of Oakland.
The mother of two is considered at risk due to an undisclosed medical condition, according to the Oakland Police Department.
As the desperate search for Amy continues, her husband, Chris Hillyard, who she co-own's Farley's Coffee with, revealed she was working through mental health challenges when she went missing.
She was 'recovering' from depression and anxiety following the deaths of a close friend and one of the family's dogs, as well as the stress of extensive caretaking of close relatives, Chris told the San Francisco Chronicle.
'Amy prides herself on being there for others, taking care of others, and all of these stressors took their toll,' the husband said.
According to Chris, his wife had sought professional help and was prescribed medication for depression and anxiety when she disappeared.
'[Amy was] working on recovering and doing all the right things to heal. The fact is that being without her medication is dangerous, and that's why it's important to bring Amy home,' Chris revealed.
'There's no real explanation for why she has gone missing. She did not leave a note behind or any other clues.'

Chris added, 'We won't stop searching for Amy until we have answers. We believe she is still alive.'
Oakland police told the newspaper they do not believe foul play was involved in Amy's disappearance.
'At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play. At present, there is no evidence of abduction, kidnapping, or any other crime associated with her disappearance,' the department said.
On the day of her disappearance, Chris said they had breakfast together at home, and then he dropped her off at the transit station, where she went to a therapy appointment.
Amy texted her husband around 1.40pm to let him know she had returned home and that her credit card had been charged for a transit ticket.
Chris said surveillance footage showed Amy shortly after, taking their dog for a walk and chatting with a neighbor.
When Chris got home around 3.15pm, the back door was open, and Amy's belongings were on the kitchen counter, including car keys, cellphone, wallet and handbag.
At 4.30pm, Amy was spotted on surveillance video in the area of Dimond Park, located at the base of Dimond Canyon and its hiking trails, according to police.

'Amy's superpower is to bring out the best in people. She made me a better person. She makes most people she comes in contact with a better person,' her husband said.
'She's able to bring out everyone's superpowers. Now we need those powers to bring her home. Community is a big part of who Amy is. She loves to bring people together.
