A Maine father of three rescued his son from a tumbling power line during a brutal thunderstorm.

Scott Towers was walking home from his brother's house outside of Augusta on May 5 when he, his wife and his kids were caught in a sudden switch of weather.

'I've lived here my whole life, and I've never experienced anything like the weather that had come through here,' Towers told WMTW

Towers and his family live in Arkay Mobile Home Park in Wilton, just two houses down from his brother's lot in the same neighborhood.

Amidst their brief walk home, the strong wind caused poles holding up active powerlines to loudly snap above them.

'My wife had told our kids to run home because we really thought it was a tornado coming through. It was that extreme,' he said.

Towers said the horrifying sound was 'like a bomb went off.'

He noticed that one sizzling cable was tumbling straight down on his son and caught it in his bare hands without a thought.

Scott Towers, his wife and his children were on a short walk home from hos brother's house when a sudden storm broke out

Tower noticed an active power line tumbling straight down on top of his son and rushed to his rescue

'I shoved him forward, and when I shoved him forward, the lines dropped right in front of me,' he said.

'The lines literally fell into my hands, and I just had to hold on to them because my son was right there.'

'When I held on to them, it threw me backwards about four or five feet onto the ground, and I completely blacked out,' Towers added.

Electricity traveled through his hand and out of his elbow, Towers claimed.

He was left unresponsive on the ground. Neighbors who witnessed the horrifying aftermath said the heroic father had collapsed and wasn't moving or breathing.

His brother, Dustin, began chest compressions and eventually managed to shake him awake.

'I grabbed him by the head, and I shook him. It was the scariest thing I've ever been through,' he told the outlet.

Towers was rushed to the hospital and treated for his injuries. He was allowed to go home the next day with a heart monitor attached.

According to Time and Date, wind speeds on Tuesday gushed at up to 15 miles per hour.

The family lived just steps away from Towers' brother at Arkay Mobile Home Park in Wilton, Maine

Towers is still in excruciating pain, but said he would catch the power line again in a heartbeat.

'You know, it's not necessarily that I went out of my way...,' he said. 'I had to catch it, or it was going to land on my son, and there was no question about that.

The rest of the family got away from the storm with just a few scrapes and bruises.

City electric crews are working to fix the slew of collapsed power lines in the aftermath of the sudden and dangerous storm.

The Daily Mail contacted Central Maine Power and the Towers family for more information.
