An armed and dangerous shooter opened fire in a busy Montreal area on Monday morning.
Locals were told to take cover as shots rang out around 11.35am in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said.
Terrifying footage shared online showed a shattered window at a high-rise building as armed police officers rushed to the scene.
Other clips showed police officers rush into what appears to be a grocery store as two people lay on the ground outside.
The area is known for its high levels of foot traffic with several residential building and grocery stores around.
'We are asking everyone to avoid the sector. The situation is not under control,' Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson with Montreal police, said.
An officer has been injured, Brabant said, according to CTV News.
The officer's condition remains unknown and it is unclear if anyone else was injured in the shooting.
