Andy Burnham plans to give Sir Keir Starmer one final chance to 'do the decent thing' and resign before orchestrating a move to remove him from Downing Street.
The Greater Manchester mayor is planning to deliver the Prime Minister a private ultimatum this weekend, warning him that he must either set out a timetable for departure or face an imminent coup.
Mr Burnham will stop short of publicly calling for the Labour leader to resign if he wins tomorrow's Makerfield by-election.
But his supporters will take to the airwaves to pile pressure on beleaguered Sir Keir – and allies are then plotting a wave of ministerial resignations to try to force him out.
Leadership rival Wes Streeting also called for the Prime Minister to set out a timetable this week.
But what do you think – should Sir Keir quit if Mr Burnham is victorious tomorrow?
In yesterday's poll, Mail readers were asked: 'Will social media ban stop children looking at sites?' Out of around 3,000 votes, 93 per cent of you said 'no' and 7 per cent said 'yes'.
