Supermodel Anok Yai has blasted The Washington Post after a columnist claimed she ripped a hole in her Met Gala dress to urinate in 2024.
Washington Post features writer Maura Judkis appeared to link Anok Yai, 28, to an embarrassing Met Gala bathroom mishap in a lighthearted article about how celebrities use the restroom in elaborate couture.
The piece, titled 'How do stars pee at the Met Gala? An investigation', quoted stylist Mickey Freeman, who described an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction experienced by one of his clients.
Freeman said his client made a 'stunning entrance in an elaborate couture sheer mesh jumpsuit, intricately embroidered and adorned with a stunning array of hand-stitched Swarovski crystals and pearls, covering her from neck to toe'.
However, he said the client was sewn into the bodysuit, and as they got 'swept up in the grandeur and excitement' of the gala and 'had some drinks', they had to tear a hole in it to use the bathroom.
'Freeman declined to say who this celebrity was, but Detective Google shows that, in 2024, model Anok Yai wore an outfit that matches this description,' Judkis wrote in her piece after quoting him.
The Sudanese-American model hit back on Instagram, saying she had been misidentified by Judkis.
'I usually stay quiet and keep to myself,' she wrote. 'But how dare you misalign my character and imply that I ripped my outfit and peed on myself during the Met Gala of 2024! Fact check next time! Are you crazy?!'

Yai furiously denied the claim on Instagram, writing: 'Fact check next time! Are you crazy?!'
In a follow-up post, Yai tagged the Washington Post directly, saying 'if you find any photos of my outfit ripped or urine dripping down my leg, send it to me.'
Freeman quickly came to Yai's defense and said she was never the mystery celebrity described in his anecdote.
'Nope! It was not Queen @anokyai,' he wrote in an Instagram Story.
He later called the controversy 'a hilarious non-story' and said he 'absolutely adore[s] Anok.'
'She was never part of the story, which is why I found it so absurd when I saw her name!' Freeman wrote.
In a subsequent post, Freeman added: 'Not to mention, I've never worked with @anokyai in any capacity.'
Yai made history in 2018 when she became the first black model to open a Prada runway show since Naomi Campbell in 1997.
