Maine's Democratic governor is being mocked for attempting to be 'edgy' in a new campaign video for her bid for US Senate

Janet Mills launched her campaign in October and got profane in a new promotional video as she promised to fix 'broken' Washington.

'I'm running for just one term, because I'm going to go down to Washington and get s**t done,' she vowed in the clip released Thursday.

The 78-year-old is advocating for Congressional term limits, suggesting two six-year terms for the Senate and six two-year terms for Representatives.

'Too many politicians, even well-intentioned, spend too much of their time worried about fundraising and running for their next election,' she said.

She also said some stay in their seat to get wealthy and sell out constituents in the meantime. Mills is also advocating for restricting congressional members from trading stock.

'Washington needs change,' she said. 'Politicians should answer to the people they represent and no one else. That's how I've governed here in Maine, and that's how I will govern in the Senate.'

Her use of profanity stunned viewers, who branded the misguided attempt to connect with voters as 'embarrassing.'

Janet Mills promised to 'get s**t done' in Washington in a new campaign video which did not land well with voters who accused her of trying to be 'edgy' by using profanity

She is running to replace incumbent Republican Susan Collins, who was elected in 1996

'Edgy,' one X user sarcastically wrote in response to the post.

'This is just embarrassing. No rizz at all,' another wrote, using the online slang term for charisma.

'An octogenarian using profanity in a public announcement. What a low life,' one person fumed. However, it should be noted that at 78, Mills is not an octogenarian quite yet.

Mills is running against Susan Collins, a 73-year-old Republican who was elected to the Senate in 1996.

Democrats have been eyeing Collins's seat for some time, as she has been a reliable vote for Donald Trump's policies.

In order for the Democrats to take control of the Senate, they have to flip four seats, and they believe Collins could be an easier target, The New York Times reported.

In February, Collins came under fire from Trump after she was one of four Republicans who voted to restrict his military power usage in Venezuela.

Many were shocked to hear a politician use profanity in their campaign video, calling it 'edgy'

If Mills wins her bid, she will be the oldest freshman member of the Senate and will take office aged 79 years old

Mills received the backing of Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, but she's not out of the woods yet.

She faces Graham Platner in the primary. The oyster farmer was backed by Senator Bernie Sanders.

Platner's campaign is also more heavily funded than Mills's, with nearly three times as much cash flow, The Times reported in February.

Mills also faced a setback after she did not commit to releasing her medical records in October, when she entered the race.

Should she win the competition, Mills would become the oldest freshman Senator elected in US history as she would take office at 79 if successful.

The primary election in Maine is June 9. The Daily Mail has reached out to Mills for comment.
