Congressman Cory Mills is combatting claims that he should be expelled from Congress over misconduct allegations from problematic financial disclosures to sexual extortion.

On Tuesday, ex-Congressmen Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzalez resigned due to a string of allegations of sexual misconduct. 

Amid the pair’s resignations, some members of Congress have also called on Mills to step down, while others have threatened to pursue expulsion proceedings against the Trump-endorsed Florida Republican.

Mills, who has faced allegations including assault, sexual coercion, stolen valor and financial misconduct, rejected comparisons to Swalwell, whose resignation followed a wave of accusations that he had sexual relationships with staff.

The bipartisan House Ethics Committee has formed a subcommittee to investigate a wide range of claims against Mills. The inquiry remains ongoing.

'I don’t belong in the same category as Swalwell and his allies,' Mills told NewsNation on Tuesday.

'One, I'm not married, so there's one thing. Two, I've never sexually harassed and or have any complaints by any staffers or interns on the Hill. It's just not even a fair comparison,' the Florida Republican said. He said the ordeal is 'obviously a political, Democratic tit-for-tat.'

It is unclear if Mills' divorce is finalized; it was reported in September 2025 that he was still undergoing legal proceedings. A former Mills staffer told the Daily Mail they were unsure if the divorce agreement had been completed. 

Last February, DC police were dispatched to Mills’ residence after his girlfriend, Sarah Raviani, called 911 to report an alleged domestic disturbance.

She later claimed she was not assaulted and charges were not brought against the Congressman.

In October, Mills' ex-girlfriend Lindsey Langston, the 2024 winner of the Miss United States pageant, accused the Congressman of threatening to release nude images and videos of her after their breakup. 

A Florida judge later granted her a protective order against Mills. 

He has also been scrutinized for allegedly misrepresenting his financial disclosures and his military service record. 

Republican Speaker Mike Johnson said he'd be 'looking into' allegations against Mills this week.

GOP Congresswoman Nancy Mace, meanwhile, has called for her Republican colleague to be expelled, saying as recently as this week he 'need[s] to go.'

Democrats have piled on Mills, too, as another one of their members, Florida Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, is under pressure to resign over allegedly stealing $5 million in COVID relief funds to help with her re-election. 

'Congress should not tolerate representatives who abuse staff, betray public trust for personal gain, and generally violate their oath of office. Reps. Swalwell, Gonzales, Cherfilus-McCormick, and Mills should resign,' Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez recently posted on X.

'If they refuse, they should be expelled. Americans deserve better and Congress must hold our members accountable,' she continued. 

Progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also has voiced support for Mills' removal from office.

'I’m glad that Eric Swalwell is leaving. I’m glad that Tony Gonzalez is leaving. Frankly, I think Cory Mills should be on that list as well,' she said on Tuesday. 

Last week, Mills' longtime chief of staff and chief counsel, Catherine Treadwell, abruptly resigned.

In her resignation letter she thanked her co-workers and concluded it with an ominous message: 'The horrors persist, but I do not.' 

There is a high bar to expel members of the House, two-thirds of the members must vote to boot anyone. Only six members of the House have ever been expelled, the most recent being former New York Congressman George Santos in 2023.
