After the heartache and the hangovers, defiant Tartan Army fans are bidding a fond - if slightly tipsy - farewell to Boston...
Fans headed back to the bars in the city which has taken them to their hearts yesterday to ease the pain of Friday night’s defeat to Morocco.
And as many prepared to follow their heroes to their next match in Miami, Scotland fans have already been invited BACK to Boston by delighted city officials.
A U.S. state senator has already suggested an annual event to bring the Scots and Bostonians together.
A staggering 50,000 Scotland fans are said to have stayed in Boston during the two fixtures Steve Clarke’s men had in nearby Foxborough.
During their time in the city – which is the capital of Massachusetts – they have entertained locals with their cheeky antics, raucous singing, bagpipes and jovial spirit.
They’ve also left a lasting legacy as a result of charity donations, media coverage and reports that they’ve attracted a number of female admirers across the Pond.
Despite the national side losing 1 – 0 to Morocco on Friday night, the Tartan Army kept their spirits up, with fans seen celebrating with Moroccan supporters in the wake of the defeat.

Tens of thousands of them will now fly home while many more will make their way from Boston, the UK and elsewhere to Miami for Scotland’s crunch clash against Brazil on Wednesday.
Massachusetts State Senator Paul Feeney said an emotional goodbye to the Scotland fans as he called for an annual reunion.
He said: ‘This message is for Scotland and the Tartan Army. First of all, we love you.
‘You literally drank all of our beer so we now need to restock that and figure that out.’
While joking about fans’ antics, such as placing traffic cones on the heads of statues, Mr Feeney genuinely thanked fans for donating money to local charities, visiting children’s hospitals and playing bagpipes for school pupils.
He said: ‘You’ve been great, courteous guests, you’ve been polite and you’ve been fun and I don’t want that to end.
‘So, here’s my proposition - let’s get together and make this an annual thing.
‘Maybe you can come over each summer and play the US men’s national team or Ireland.

‘Whatever it takes to get you back here, year after year.
‘You’ve been great guests, we’ve been happy to have you and we want you to come back.’
His suggestion isn’t the only proposal to solidify the friendship between Boston and Scotland.
Earlier this week, the city’s mayor Michelle Wu announced she wanted Boston to be formally twinned with Glasgow.
Mayor Wu even wore a Scotland strip as she signed a letter of intent for the proposal at The Haven, the city’s only dedicated Scottish bar.
She has been spotted celebrating with Scotland fans throughout their time in the city and was even filmed pouring pints for the Tartan Army in an Irish pub on the night of the Morocco game.
Ahead of fans leaving Boston, Mayor Wu thanked them for the joy they had brought.
She said: ‘Thank you so much for making our city come alive and for bringing every bit of culture and fandom and excitement to Boston.’
Yesterday (Sat), locals spoke of their sadness at saying goodbye to the Tartan Army.
One fan, who described the period the Tartan Army has been in Boston as ‘the biggest party in America, said: ‘It’s almost like a day of mourning for the American people.

‘I think every Bostoner has loved every second and every interaction with the Scottish people. It’s been the best.’
The impression made by the Tartan Army has even led to claims that Boston could be facing a baby boom.
Scotland fans have become a hit with local singles thanks to their capacity for fun and frolics.
Some locals are even said to have said their ‘faith in men has been restored’ after partying with their kilt-clad fans.
Women in Boston have been sharing videos on social media of them partying with Scots.
One even organised a dating event, calling on all Scots to visit a bar where 100 single US women were desperate to meet them.
Another, who posted a video of herself in a Scotsman’s arms, wrote: ‘At least I’m single while the Scottish are in town.’
A third remarked: ‘You need to go by the bars - you could find a nice Scottish man.’
