Two people were killed when the small plane they were flying in crashed into a home in Akron, Ohio on Thursday.
The fatal collision occurred at around 3.45pm in the 2200 block of Canterbury Circle, where a two-story house caught fire and was left in ruins.
'We got a call that residents saw a plane going down into the house,' District Chief Sierjie Lash told WJW.
'We got more calls that people heard explosions, and we arrived to heavy smoke coming out of the house.'
That plume of heavy black smoke could be seen from miles away, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Multiple jurisdictions rushed to the scene, including the Federal Aviation Administration and the Ohio State Highway Patrol - which has since confirmed that the two victims were found dead inside the aircraft, according to WOIO.
The home that was struck and the house next door were also evacuated, but nobody inside the homes were injured.

Those who witnessed the fatal collision were left shocked by what they had seen and heard as the 1963 Piper Cherokee single-engine plane went down.
Next-door neighbor Michael Phillips said he was at home with his family at the time.
'The power flickered in our house,' he recounted to the Beacon Journal. 'The next thing we heard within five to eight seconds was a boom and then a big boom.
'We came outside, and the house was on fire.'
Phillips said he immediately ran back inside the house and urged his wife and daughter to evacuate their home.
He then saw his neighbor, Colton 'CJ' Laudato - who owns the house the plane crashed into - do the same.
'CJ came flying out the front door with his kids,' Phillips said. 'He walked over, I grabbed his kids and he went back in and got the dog.'
Photos and video from the scene show the house was left badly burnt in the aftermath, while officials said the house next door also suffered some damage.

Neighbor Jewell Ulrich also told how she heard 'this humongous, loud thud.'
'Instantly, all of us came running out,' she said. 'We saw that the airplane had hit the house. The fire was just instantly going... It was so hot.
'And then you could see the tail of the airplane sitting right there,' she continued, as her husband, Steve, explained that the tail of the plane 'was just hanging out of the garage.'
One wing from the plane was also seen on the ground between two houses.
It remains unclear what caused the single-engine plane to crash into the suburban home. It had departed Akron Fulton Airport at 2.03pm, according to data from FlightAware.
The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating the crash.
