An American man who shared viral footage of Scottish football fans playing the bagpipes at 6.30am has furthered relations between the two countries by treating them to beers.

This week Mike Morrison, a communications director for hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts, awoke to find the house across the street had been transformed into a corner of Scotland and bedecked in Saltires. 

Members of the Tartan Army arrived at the property 'in the dead of night' on Wednesday before treating the neighbourhood to a musical performance early the next day.

The group is just a few of the Scottish fans who have descended on the north-eastern American state in recent days ahead of their side's opening game tonight.

Some 30,000 footsoldiers have secured tickets for the matches, with another 20,000 travelling to the US just to be there while the tournament is unfolding.

Scotland are set to face Haiti at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough in the early hours of Sunday UK time. 

After Mr Morrison shared footage of the piper - named on social media as Lewis - on X, the group have gone viral and celebrated their newfound fame with none other than the man himself.

He took to social media again on Friday to share a cheerful picture of himself with his new - temporary - neighbours, updating his followers: 'I have made contact with the Scots and was offered an 8:00 am World Cup beer. If only I had taken the day off.'

Last night he shared a picture of himself heading across the street with a box of beers, adding 'Viva Scotland' - and today he even cooked the group breakfast.

Speaking to Men In Blazers, Mr Morrison said: 'To see these majestic creatures in the wild outside their native habitat, it was breathtaking.'

He explained: 'It was actually my wife who noticed when she got up in the morning that a house across the street had been fully turned into a remote Scotland.

'Lo and behold, the lads had come out and one of them broke out some bagpipes and started wailing. You know, of course, I'll throw it on Twitter.

'I got a couple of text messages from friends saying, dude, you're blowing up.'

The video Mr Morrison shared showed the three men outside their Airbnb, one wearing a kilt and taking selfies, while a second is playing the traditional Scottish instrument.

A Scotland flag flutters from an upstairs window, while national bunting also adorns a wooden fence along the front of the property.

Despite the early hour, Mr Morrison confessed to enjoying the performance, saying he welcomes the group 'whole-heartedly' and adding: 'Positive vibes only. We love having them here!'

Describing the moment he reunited with the Scots, he said: 'More than 24 hours later I pulled into my driveway and a few minutes after they pulled into theirs across the street.

'So I kind of just pointed at them and was like "What's up?" And they pointed back at me and one of those guys motioned me over and it was all hugs and slaps on the back and I said: "You guys are famous".

'The first thing out of one of their mouths was "can we get you a beer?".'

He added: 'Little did I know I'd be falling in love overnight with Scotland'.

Mr Morrison urged his followers to support another Scottish fan, Craig Ferguson, who has completed a mammoth 3,200 mile walk across the US to raise money for charity Scottish Action for Mental Health.

Mr Ferguson was cheered across the finish line as he arrived in Boston this week, having completed the entire journey while wearing a kilt.

His epic trek has so far raised more than £1 million.

Scottish fans are gearing up for their side's opening match against Haiti tonight, which will kick off at 2am BST. 

The game has been billed as a must-win, with matches against Africa Cup of Nations winners Morocco and international super giants Brazil to come.

The Tartan Army have taken over parts of Boston as they arrived this week, packing out bars, pubs and clubs and bringing a party atmosphere along with singing, dancing and piping.
