A frantic search is underway for a five-year-old girl who was abducted after her mother was murdered in Los Angeles.
Daleza Fregoso, 4, was last seen on Sunday in the early hours on the corner of Ferndale Street and Alsace Avenue, in the Mid-City neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers realized she was missing after responding to a welfare check on South Alsace Avenue, where they discovered Daleza's mother had been killed.
Detectives concluded that the woman had died as a result of violence and identified her husband, Ruben Fregoso, 40, as a person of interest.
Investigators later learned that Fregoso had made statements indicating that he intended to flee the country, according to the LAPD.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued an Amber Alert for Daleza on Monday, calling on the community to keep an eye out for the vehicle of interest, a 2019 white Land Rover Discovery with a California license plate.
Authorities have not disclosed the relationship between Fregoso and the little girl, but they share the same surname. Law enforcement released an update that the vehicle had been located in San Diego County, but the child and suspect were still at large.
