A teacher lost his job and tried to take his own life after he was blackmailed over a sexually explicit video, a court heard. 

The man filmed the clip in the disabled toilets at the school where he worked and sent it to Muaawiya Ameen, 21, believing he was a woman. 

Ameen then demanded £1,000 or he would send the video to his manager. 

The teacher, who cannot be named, agreed to send £400 but Ameen still shared the file with students at the victim's workplace. 

Ameen, from Allenton, Derby was jailed for 15 months on Wednesday after admitting blackmail. 

Judge Shaun Smith KC described his behaviour as 'wicked'. He said the teacher 'went through all of the worries about his privacy, reputation and personal safety'. 

'Even when the money was paid you still sent it out with all of the students looking at it,' he said. 

'He was finished in his job but worst of all, on the very night it was published, he tried to take his own life.

'Thankfully someone called him by chance and he says that saved his life.

'You know what you were doing and you achieved it.'

Derby Crown Court heard the teacher started a conversation on Instagram with a profile he believed was a woman and quickly the conversation turned sexual.

James Sinclair, prosecuting, said: 'Images were shared between them and he sent one of him [carrying out a sexual act] which he recorded in the disabled toilets of the establishment where he worked.

'They arranged to video call each other but that never happened and the defendant then demanded £1,000 or he would distribute it to his manager.

'They agreed on a fee of £400 which the victim paid via PayPal and then reported the matter to the police the same day.

'The video was then distributed to students at the establishment from where he was later dismissed.'

The teacher made a victim impact statement to the court in which he told how he contemplated suicide, lost his job and now had suffered a emotional stress. 

Joseph Chivayo, in mitigation, said his client acted in error under pressure from people he thought were his genuine friends as he tried to fit in.

He said: 'He fully accepts his actions were wrong and he is responsible.

'He works part-time on a family business and there is a reference from his employer which speaks of his hard work.

'He has the support of his family and his father sits in court today. This has been a learning experience for him.'
