It’s an idyllic, private island fit for a king and even comes with its own helicopter hangar and shooting range.

But to call Eilean Righ home it’ll cost at least £10 million…

The 261-acre island on Loch Craignish, Argyll and Bute, has been put on the market and is described as ‘everything that the ultimate Scottish island should be’.

Complete with a luxurious four-bedroom, three-bathroom house, floating jetty and observatory, the King’s Island could be a lucrative investment for anyone looking for the ultimate retreat on one of Scotland’s most beautiful coastlines.

The only snag? Buyers will need to bring their own carpets and lights, with the price tag excluding fixtures and fittings in the main house and adjoining three-bed farmhouse.

The picturesque island, settled within one of Scotland’s most accessible coastlines, is just 20 minutes by helicopter from Glasgow Airport but is also accessible by boat.

This ultimate holiday home comes with a boat house, 750 metre shooting range, wine cellar and gun room as well as an observatory, complete with a substantial telescope.

The new owners of Eilean Righ will join a cast of historical figures with connections to the island. The most famous is Scottish diplomat Sir Reginald Fleming Johnston, the last British Commissioner of Weihaiwei who was also the tutor to Pu Yi, the last Emperor of China.

Born in Edinburgh, Sir Reginald moved to the King’s Island on his retirement in 1937 moved to the King’s Island on his retirement in 1937 and was given permission by Pu Yi to fly the Imperial flag of Manchukuo there, making it the only place outside of China to do retired to the island and stayed there until his death in 1938.

Selling platform Private Islands Inc said the current owners – former financier Christian Siva-Jothy and his wife – have lived there for more than 25 years, initially using it as a holiday spot before moving there permanently eight years ago. An advert states the owners ‘spent three years and several million pounds impeccably upgrading it to modern standards.’ Many believe Eilean Righ’s striking name, which is Gaelic for ‘King’s Island’ comes from Danish sea king Olaf Tryggvason who died in the area in the year 1000. Others say the title comes from many Scottish kings being crowned in mid Argyll.

The land is also home to the remains of two Iron Age forts, or duns, alongside more than 100 sheep and wild goats.

The loch provides magnificent views and varied fishing and lobster potting areas.

Nature lovers can enjoy obeserving wildlife such as dolphins, otters, sea eagles and ospreys. The option to invest in livestock is also there as previous owners removed deer and goats to ‘regenerate native tree species’.
