A 51-year-old man has been arrested after a woman in her 70s was fatally stabbed.
Emergency services were called to a home on Dryandra Street in O'Connor, in Canberra's inner-north, about 8.45am on Thursday following reports a man had stabbed a relative.
ACT Ambulance Service paramedics treated a woman at the scene for critical injuries but she died on the way to hospital.
A man in his 70s was also injured in the incident and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital under police guard.
Detective Acting Inspector Chris Watson, from ACT Policing's Homicide Squad, said officers were still searching for the weapon.
A large crime scene was established around the home.
'That's to protect the integrity of the scene at the moment There's a lot of through traffic and we're just preventing any contamination,' Insp Watson said.

Insp Watson confirmed the woman and alleged attacker were related but did not go into further detail about their relationship 'as not all family members are aware of what's occurred'.
Charges will be laid at a later date.
