Eden conceded the subject matter was serious but said it was 'classic' of the Duke to choose this moment, with the Royal Family at its busiest in months, to stoke a fresh controversy.
'I have to say, the timing is extraordinary,' the royal expert said.
'What have we got this week? The King's Speech, a huge event, and Catherine's first foreign trip for almost four years, and here he is, writing an article.
'It has obviously been planned. It's for a Left-wing magazine and it's controversial. It's clearly designed to get headlines.
'I noticed in the Times there's no story about Princess Catherine, there's no picture of her, but there's a prominent story about Harry and this article.'

'I do not know who Harry has got advising him on doing something like this. It has to be really nuanced, and this didn't seem particularly nuanced.'
