A married elementary school teacher has been charged with sexual misconduct after she allegedly admitted to having sex with a 16-year-old boy inside a pick-up truck.

Mackenzie Naught, 25, was arrested at her home in St John, Washington state on Sunday after her husband Garrett allegedly uncovered her affair.

Naught had sex with the boy in the early hours of May 3, according to court documents obtained by The Spokesman-Review.

The teen, whose family is reportedly friends with the Naughts, had been messaging the first-grade teacher and her husband on Snapchat.

After Garrett went to sleep, he and Naught continued to message. He told police the 25-year-old was 'being flirty' and tried to get him to meet her, the records said.

He agreed and picked her up from her street at around 2.15am, the boy told Whitman County Sheriff's deputies.

Naught asked him to take her to a 'little spot' where they could hang out, so he drove her to Harwood Hill, a nearby agricultural area and rural road.

The pair talked for awhile, but then Naught kissed him and started to 'get handsy,' the court filings said. They then had sex inside his vehicle and in the truck bed.

The teen dropped Naught back near her home around 4am, he told police.

Garrett, 24, reported the affair to police late Saturday night after the boy confessed to him about it in a voice call and over Snapchat, the documents said.

Garrett told police he has the teen on the app because he knows him and his family well. He is also the assistant track coach at the boy's high school.

Naught was arrested on Sunday after the boy and his mother met with authorities at the Whitman County Sheriff's Office.

She initially denied having sex with the boy, but later confirmed his story, the records said.

She told police she knew the boy from community events and said they had previously hung out in group settings.

She then went on to say that she knew he was only 16 but claimed he felt 'like one of their friends,' according to court documents.

Naught apologized, said she knew sleeping with the boy was wrong and told police she asked him not to tell anyone about what happened.

She made her first court appearance on Monday and was jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond on a charge of first-degree sexual conduct with a minor.

The age of consent in Washington is 16 and investigators have not yet clarified how old the alleged victim was when the attack was said to have taken place.  

Naught had been teaching first grade at St. John Elementary School since September 2025. The district has placed her on leave.

'At this time, St. John School District is aware of allegations involving a district employee that are currently being reviewed by law enforcement,' St. John School District Superintendent Tina Strong wrote in a statement. 

'The employee has been placed on leave and will not be on campus during this process. The District is cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities and will also be conducting its own investigation into the allegations.' 

Strong doubled down on her commitment to the 'safety, well-being, and support of our students and school community.'

'We understand situations like this can create concern, questions, and emotions throughout a small community, and we ask that everyone approach this matter with care and respect while the appropriate process unfolds,' she added.

'We also expect staff to continue maintaining the highest level of professionalism during this time.'

The alleged victim is reportedly a junior at neighboring St. John-Endicott High School.
