A wave of gun violence swept across Chicago as multiple shootings left six people dead and 28 others wounded.

The weekend's largest spree unfolded on Juneteenth, when a mass shooting in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood on the South Side left 13 people injured Friday night.

Chicago police said a red SUV pulled up to a large crowd in the 200 block of West 95th Street shortly after 11pm, and two people inside opened fire on those gathered, leaving 13 people injured, CBS News reported.

Mayor Brandon Johnson addressed the mass shooting while speaking at a Juneteenth Day of Action event on Saturday.

'Last night was another reminder of how much work we still have to do to protect the lives who have been impacted by gun violence,' he said.

'As a father, as a husband, as a brother, as a cousin, just as a resident, it is heartbreaking. It's difficult to even digest and consume. There are too many families that have experienced loss in this city.'

The victims were between 14 and 70 years old. Mass violence erupted across the city beginning Thursday ahead of the extended holiday weekend.

A 32-year-old man was killed when shots were fired from a vehicle near an alley in the 600 block of East 92nd Place on Thursday at 5.45pm.
